Environment
Environmental and Intergenerational Guardianship: Kaitiakatanga, is essential to New Zealand dairy farming as it ensures we protect the long-term health of our land, soil, water, air, and ecosystems, of which dairy farming relies on. Dairying, although only occupying approximately 14% of our agricultural land, is our largest export earner and a significant contributor to our gross domestic product (GDP). It is therefore vital that we focus on sustainable food production to ensure our country remains economically healthy while we manage our resources sustainably.
Practices like managing greenhouse gas emissions, and protecting waterways, not only safeguard the environment, but also meet the growing consumer demand for environmentally responsible products. By prioritising environmental guardianship, New Zealand dairy farmers can continue to produce high quality products while ensuring the health of their land and ecosystems. This will deliver long-term success and the preservation of the country’s unique natural environment for future generations.
At LUDF we strive for best practice management strategies to ensure our environmental footprint are aligned with our community values.
